Benefits of Investing in South America
South America boasts many desirable investment attributes. We currently operate in Chile and are in the process of expanding our services to other South American countries.
Why invest in Chile?
The reasons to invest in Chilean Forestry are numerous and include:
- Forests in the part of Chile we operate in typically yield higher rates of organic growth than those achieved by woodlands in Europe, USA, New Zealand and Scandinavia, and therefore offer the prospect of achieving associated higher financial returns.
- Chile is a politically stable country with a safe economic environment backed up by clear land ownership regulations (Law DL 600).
- The country has a robust forest industry based on a well developed forestry and timber processing sector serving export markets in all corners of the world (China, USA, EU, Middle East and Central and South America).
- Fast growing rates enable short rotation lengths of 10-24 years and income from thinning as early as year 8.
- Fountains Forestry's local office in Temuco has over 25 years experience in the management of forest assets on behalf of European investors.
- Fountains Forestry’s UK offices provide client contact to ensure that investors receive the best service with risk management skills to ensure that all our clients’ forests achieve maximum returns.
- At present the demand for land is weak following the global economic crisis making it an attractive time to enter the market when land prices are negotiable.
- Risks such as fire, wind and snow are all mitigated through the use of appropriate species and management and through available insurance cover.
- Biotic and biological risks are small; the species selected are suited to the site proposed and their silviculture is used in over 2 million hectares of these species planted in Chile over the past 30 years.
- Chile has signed 20 double taxation agreements (DTA), including one with Britain.
