Network Rail

Fountains Forestry carried out the London North East Zone Rail Network Survey for Network Rail. The aim of the project was to provide information regarding the state of the vegetation and its impact on the rail infrastructure. The survey was completed over approximately 1 year and covered a distance of around 3600 miles from Kings Cross station to Berwick-on-Tweed.

Scope of Work:

DGPS hardware was used to gather the following information:

  • ID and density of tree species within each ¼ mile post
  • ID of any dead, dying or diseased trees
  • Impact on structures such as bridges and watercourses
  • Threat to signals and overhead line equipment
